A Geocaching Adventure In HELL

Yup I can honestly say that I have seen Hell Freeze Over. No the Detroit Lions did not win the Super Bowl and i am not speaking the place of sulfur and brimstone.  Hell, Michigan is a tiny little town not to far from where I lived in Dexter, Michigan. Yes anytime there was a good snow or ice storm news crews would come out for the photo opportunity of shooting Hell frozen over.

For the longest time it was a one light town without the light. In fact the only thing was a bar. Now it is not quite a booming metropolis though it has expanded to an ice cream / putt-putt / Halloween store.

Hell does have geocaches and wife Amy and I took a little trip to see what we could find.

The pickings were pretty slim in Hell but we managed to find three geocaches.

You had to keep moving otherwise you might be overtaken by Michigan's state bird - the mosquito.

Very cool cemetery nearby. We spent several minutes checking out the gravestones.

Had fun driving around my old stomping grounds and showing Wife Amy the sites. Then we had just enough time to meet up with family for some dinner and conversation. A really fun day.

Good Food, Family and Fudge - Frankenmuth, Michigan

On Saturday (7/4) we spent some time with my sister Vicki, brother Scott and his family.

What better place to meet up and eat up than Frankenmuth, Michigan. Home of Bronner's Christmas Store (largest in the world) plus Bavarian Inn and Zehnder's World Famous Chicken houses.

The feud of the chicken houses go back ages. It is a true Coke/Pepsi rivalry that will split families in two when deciding where to eat. Even though both are now owned by one family the divide is real and both take great pride on who is best in this town.

Do you prefer Zehnder's

or do you prefer Bavarian Inn?
Bronner's Christmas store has been my North Pole since I was a kid. Mr. Bronner who owned Bronner's was a very respected representative of Michigan and catching a glimpse of him during working hours was like a Santa sighting. I finally caught up with him years ago for a photo opt, it is one of my prized shots.

There is tons to do at Frankenmuth. From horse drawn carriages to home made fudge.  It very much a tourist place to go but if you are from Michigan and beyond you still take time to drop on by every now and again.

Note my patriotic t-shirt matches the Fourth of July float.

Bavarian Inn Hotel and the river front next to it.

Photos From Our Michigan Trip - Wall Cloud at the Virginia-North Carolina Border

Driving home from Michigan on Sunday (7/5) was mostly uneventful until, dun, dun, dunnnnn.

The mass flooding and torrential rain we had to drive through the West Virginia and Virginia mountains on I-77.  It really came down to the point the car was easily spinning it's tires (hydroplaning) with very little effort. Felt very much like driving through the winter months except it was July. This added several hours to our trip home.

As we were coming up to the North Carolina border we saw this wall cloud in the valley below. The thunderstorms were pretty violent.

Luckily things cleared up as we drove closer to Raleigh, NC.  Though I have to admit, what ever adrenaline I had left was spent after our 18 hour trip.

Maybe next time we will fly to Michigan instead of drive...
