What Is Geocaching To Headhardhat?

In a recent interview I was asked, "What is Geocaching to HeadHardHat?".  I have to admit that the question threw me off balance for a moment or two. You see normally I simply get asked, "What is Geocaching?" but this was what is Geocaching to me. That my fellow reader is quite the open question. Here is the jist of what I replied.

Geocaching to me has many faceted sides. There is the personal escape I love when Geocaching allows me the freedom to choose what type of adventure I wish to pursue that day. For example, if I want to explore a new place I have never been to before, all I have to do is look for Geocaches in that area. If I want to solve puzzles or use my cognitive skills to shake out the cobwebs there are tons of Geocaches hidden to do that. Then there is the walk in the woods for a few discoveries or go for the numbers and snag a bunch of park and grabs. It's all there for the finding.

One of my favorite facets to Geocaching has to be the outlet of making Geocaches to hide. I just love either seeing a technique used by another geocacher and thinking, "That is so cool but what if you do this..." or to come up with a cool concept and show it to other geocachers and watch how they take it and mold it to something even better. That always gives me a rush.  That is one of the reasons I make the GeoSnippits videos I do. Not to blow my own horn and say look at what I created but to plant the seed with a fellow Cacher and watch them go crazy with the idea.

Another side of Geocaching for me is the huge social network that is available to geocachers around the world be it Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Geocaching forums, Geocaching events and just plain calling a local Cacher and saying, "Let's Go Geocaching". There are so many ways to communicate with someone in this game, sport and obsession that literally spands the globe.  I cannot tell you how many invitations I have received over the years from geocachers in other countries and within the United States that give out the welcome hand of friendship just because of this common bond for finding Tupperware in the Woods. It's amazing.

Finally there is the presence in the media where I can help spread the word about Geocaching. It all started making a YouTube video about bison tubes and the next thing you know GeoSnippits Geocaching Tutorials was born. Now I have dozens of Geocaching information tidbits to help the Geocaching community enjoy our activity even more. Throw in an award winning blog "Geocache: I'm Not Obsessed... Right?" and after years of expressing my experiences and insights it has turned into a fountain of searchable information also geared to help the Geocaching community.

Now I am co-host on the Geocaching Podcast a weekly talk show where myself, XpunkX and Darrylw4 bring up interesting discussions about our favorite past-time. Then there is the features of being on Michigan Magazine TV (RFD.tv) and now having my own TV show Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) where co-host and fellow geocacher Courtney Wallin and I bring up our own experiences and helpful information each and every week.

So from all of this and so much more, Geocaching to me is the cumulative blood, sweat and tears that makes Headhardhat get up each day and know something new is always just around the corner. It is a whole lot of work but a whole lot of fun as well and I wouldn't have it any other way. Geocaching is my life and for however long it lasts I am going to embrace the opportunities and adventures it gives me.

Become A Sponsor For GeoSnippits : GeoSurvivalGear.com Success Story

I was listening to the GeoCraze Podcast which is all about geocaching with Gianster98, LugiLugia, and Austin305.

You can listen to them off of the TalkShoe website by going here: http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=91519&cmd=tc

Anyways if you click on EPISODE 15- Interview: GeoSurvivalGear.com you can listen to the guys talking with the owner of GeoSurvivalGear.com Robert Harwell (Caching Name: Harwell5).

What I found interesting about the interview was 1) How Gianster98 found out about GeoSurvivalGear.com through GeoSnippits and my Blog (Geocache: I'm NOT Obsessed... Right?).

then 2) How they discussed our sponsorship program with them and how well it was going and finally 3) How 25 - 30 percent of their traffic comes directly from our sites!!!

So my whole point is this. GeoSurvivalGear.com is getting a huge amount of traffic by being a web sponsor on our sites. Imagine also being able to promote not only on our web sites but IN our GeoSnippits Videos which are seen around the world on YouTube and in all 50 states on Michigan Magazine TV (RFDTV Network). Then top it all off by being an official sponsor of GeoSnippits on Michigan Magazine TV itself. That's three different ways of getting your product or company seen in front of thousands of viewers each and every week.

If you are interested in becoming a Sponsor of GeoSnippits in any of the ways described above please send an email to headhardhat@gmail.com and we will send you a media package presentation right back to you.

Become a sponsor to GeoSnippits and show what you are made of to thousands of viewers weekly!

Over A Quarter of a Million Views Can't Be Wrong - GeoSnippits Geocaching Milestone

If someone would have told me back when I first started making GeoSnippits Geocaching Videos that they would be as popular as they are now I would have literally laughed out loud. Geocaching is a growing and very addicting activity but let's face it comparatively to say a rock band or movie star we have a much smaller fan base. There are viral You Tube videos out there that get gazillions of hits but that wasn't why I make GeoSnippits. I do it for the geocaching community and apparently the geocaching community likes them just fine.

Yesterday I realized that GeoSnippits hit a milestone. We now have over 250,000 views on You Tube. That's over a quarter of a million times people wanted to see our geocaching goodness. How cool is that? We have put in a lot of work to bring informative geocaching videos to people all around the world and will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Yes, I know that doesn't include our exclusive GeoSnippits segments seen on TV in all 50 states via the Michigan Magazine TV show (RFDTV Network). That is another story.

We want to thank all of our viewers for getting us this far. Over 90% of the shows we do come from our viewer suggestions. We could not do it without you!

Speaking of not being able to do it without you. If you want to sponsor GeoSnippits via our websites, videos or on Michigan Magazine TV. Please contact HeadHardHat at headhardhat@gmail.com. You can also click on the Donate buttons on our websites (links just below this post) as well. We do appreciate it and all proceeds go to keeping us going. We thank you for your support!

Next Season of GeoSnippits on Michigan Magazine TV Starts This September

To say that I am excited about filming the next season of GeoSnippits for Michigan Magazine TV is a complete understatement. I am down right geeked about it.

It is so cool to be part of the Michigan Magazine TV family and having the ability to reach out to geocachers in all 50 states is a real working pleasure. Last season we made 26 episodes and expect to make at least that this year as well. I want to thank MMTV's host and co-creator Barry Stutesman for the opportunity to spread the word.

Enjoy this 20 second promo spot and see you on Michigan Magazine TV and the RFDTV network.

Wishing You The Absolute Best Geocaching Goodness In 2010

First and foremost everyone in the GeoSnippits gang wants to wish all our blog readers, video viewers and television fans the absolute best for 2010 and beyond. Without you we are nothing but empty words and unforeseen thoughts on an electronic screen. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for being here with us and look forward to the absolutely amazing adventures we will share together in the future. I can tell you right here and now it will blow the socks off of anything you have seen so far, promise.

I was looking at some of my blog posts from a year ago and wanted to hit some highlights to show you how far we have come already.

GeoSnippits Geocaching Videos - Yep a year ago we had a total of nine videos in our series. I had just finished a two parter on Paperless Geocaching using GSAK and Cachemate on my Palm TX. I was just about to make my first review on a little application from Trimble called Geocache Navigator ;) Our videos are featured on Geocache Navigator's website.

Who knew how far we would go in a year?

Currently GeoSnippits has over 40 videos in our series and is full force in season two. We are seen all around the world and currently re-translating some of our videos for Portugal soon.

We are featured on Michigan Magazine TV and seen twice weekly in all 50 states on the RFDTV Network.

GeoSnippits is featured on the FIND ME the Movie website and now featured on their Special Edition DVD for the movie.

It has been a really fun year and a whole lot of dedicated work to get were we are now. From interviews on television and Internet podcasts to being featured on WRAL News for one of their summertime segments it has been quite the thrill. Again it would never have happened if it were not for our fans and viewers.

Once again, may 2010 be an amazing year for each and every one of you and hold onto your hats when it comes to what will be happening for GeoSnippits. I have a really good feeling it is going to be our best year yet! Be safe out there and God Bless.

Lights..Camera..GeoSnippits For Michigan Magazine TV

When I woke up this morning I did not expect to have a geocaching FTF (First To Find) waiting for me. First to Finds for me is pure bragging rights and there are several other geocachers in the area that are just as passionate as me so if I wanted it I had to move fast.

The waypoint had it about 10 miles away which is on the long side of me getting there first. What drove me was that if I was able to pull this off I could turn it into a really neat GeoSnippits segment for Michigan Magazine TV. I thought to myself how many people who are new to geocaching or never been out geocaching have ever seen a real FTF? So in one fell swoop I grabbed my video gear, jumped into my geocachemobile and RACED (at the limit of posted speeds) towards my goal.

Within a few minutes I had neared the parking are for the geocache. I was so glad that I brought my video camera along because this particular cache was located in the wooded area of a neighborhood park. Complete with beautiful trails and scenic pond but before I could get all that wonderful filler footage I had to find the geocache and sign, hopefully, the clean sheetz.

Armed with my trusty pouch, walking stick and cameras I was off. My Black Berry was fully charged and I used my geocaching application Geocache Navigator to find the correct route along the trails. The beauty of having an app like that on my phone is I did not have to take the time to download the information about the new geocache. It is pulled directly from the phone connection via the Internet and wha-la instant information.

After walking about .20 of a mile I reached ground zero and began looking around. Within a couple of minutes I had the geocache in hand and much to my glee the sheetz were clean. I had found my FTF for the day. The coolest about the whole thing was I captured it all on video and now it is going to be made into a GeoSnippits segment for Michigan Magazine TV.

Now normally I have my right hand girl and daughter Miss Geoness with me. She is my camera girl and keeper of me making a complete fool out of my self when I am in front of the lens. Today though she was at school and I was by myself. This makes filming a bit difficult. One of the tools that I have recently added to my collection is pictured above. It is a flexible tripod like base that can wrap around anything. In this case there was a bent tree that worked quite well. It allows me to set up shots without the use of a full blown tripod and is small enough to keep in my geocaching pouch. It is great as a third hand for a regular camera and as you can see also works well with light video cameras. You can find these in pretty much any camera store or like me a local department store and they will run you about $20.00. Just a helpful tip from me to you.

Well I have to get back to editing this episode for GeoSnippits and Michigan Magazine TV. GeoSnippits is shown in all 50 states on MMTV which can be seen on Direct TV, Dish Network, Sky Angel and Comcast. Michigan Magazine TV is featured on the RFD-TV Network.

Hope to see you out on the trails...

GeoSnippits: Beginning Season Two

Holy cow, has it really been an entire year since the very first GeoSnippits Video?

Yeppers.

On September 12, 2008 I put out my first You Tube video entitled HeadHardHat's Introduction to Geocaching. It was 4:47 minutes long and was basically a slide show with a music background and some tid bits of information. It's still one of my more popular videos. I find it a bit humorous because at the time there were only about 700,000 geocaches compared to the 897,380 today.

Since that first endeavour, GeoSnippits has grown into a full blown video show. It is viewed by people all over the world. In season one there are 36 video episodes ranging from the very introduction to Geocaching to it's more elaborate applications and techniques. There are how to episodes for making your own geocaches and how to and how NOT to hide them. You have met people who are heavily involved with Geocaching through their show suggestions and also interviews like the Cache-A-Maniacs.

GeoSnippits is and has been featured on websites like Trimble Outdoors Geocache Navigator and the very cool indy film FIND ME.

Starting September 22nd GeoSnippits will be a weekly segment featured on Michigan Magazine TV (RFDTV Network) which is shown four times a week in all 50 US States.

So look how far we have come in one short year. What amazing stories, friends and adventures wait for us in Season Two and the years to follow? All I can say is thank you for being a part of this fun filled ride and please continue to hang onto the bar. The best is yet to come!!

See you out on the trails....

GeoSnippits Heading For Television on Michigan Magazine TV

Yes it's true, spread the word. Geocaching is going to have air time on the television airways.

GeoSnippits is a very popular series of geocaching tutorials and useful information that can be found on You Tube and the GeoSnippits website http://www.geosnippits.com. This geocaching phenom hosted by Andy Smith a.k.a. HeadHardHat has grown greatly in popularity over the past year and has been featured on GPS company websites like Trimble Outdoors and to help teach movie goers for the geocaching film FIND ME.

Now the GeoSnippits series is heading for the networks, the RFD Network to be specific and Michigan Magazine TV. Dell and Barry have been hosts of Michigan Magazine since 1989 and even with Dell in semi-retirement Barry continues to bring the amazing aspects of the Great Lakes State to viewers in all 50 states.

GeoSnippits will bring an adventure filled perspective to Michigan Magazine TV by showing it's audience the treasure seeking fun of Geocaching. Geocaching is an outside activity that utilizes GPS units with the help of satellites in space to find well hidden caches placed all around the world. GeoSnippits will feature areas around Michigan itself and other parts of the country as well.

Michigan Magazine TV can be seen twice weekly on the RFD-TV Network. Click Here to see show times and channels for your area.
