Geocaching World (RVNN.tv): 2012 Geocaching Holiday Gift List

Geocaching World (RVNN.tv): 2012 Geocaching Holiday Gift List

There are many celebrations of the Holiday Season,
we hope yours is full of good will and cheer!
We had another great show this year for our annual Geocaching World (RVNN.tv)  Geocaching Holiday Gift List and as with each year, I have been doing them since 2008, we get some surprises. Lets see if your geocaching wish list item is here. By the way you may want to print this out, put in some arrows and circles then leave to be seen by your spouse or significant other. Just saying .

-----------------------------------------------------

Right on my Geocache:I'm NOT Obsessed... Right? blog we ran a poll with twelve of the most popular geocaching holiday gift ideas from past years. The rankings for all these items change from year to year but this is how they turned out for 2012. (Note - you were able to choose more than one item this year so that is why the percentages do not add up to the expected 100%)

Holiday Wish List Poll on Blog:

- Time  (62%) - winner and still champ! Don't we all want more time to geocache.

- Geocoins/Pathtags  (33%)

- More Quality Hides  (31%)

- Geocaching Gizmos  (27%)

- Gas Card for Cachemobile (25%)

- Geocache Containers  (25%)

- Outdoor Clothes (16%)

- Geocaching Mentor  (14%)

- GPSr  (14%)

- Rechargeable Batteries  (8%)

- Geocaching Smartphone Apps  (4%)

- Annual Park Pass  (4%)

-----------------------------------------------
I then also asked the same question to the geocachers on the geocaching.com forums what they would like. Check out the top four most selected then the rest were evenly spread out across the board so we grouped them together by category for ease of viewing.  Here are the results:

2012 Christmas Geocaching Holiday List

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Ep. #919 - Geocaching Faux Pas

It is so good to be back in front of the camera again as we recorded Geocaching World last night while being joined by our very robust and informative chat room. I do have to admit that we had to work out some cob webs and technical difficulties but the show was great as usual. Yeah we had some hurdles all right. For me personally after coming back from some health issues and dealing with a move to my new residence things have been pretty hairy. In fact my temporary spot for my studio (aka the front room) was finally put together about an hour before the show.

There be gremlins here. It doesn't matter if you are doing something relatively basic like a podcast or more elaborate like a video-cast you are always going to run into technical difficulties. Tonight was no exception when things like right in the middle of the show my wireless router simply failed. It never did this before and maybe it was because of the move but BOOP! no internet connection at all. Co-Host Courtney Wallin and Managing Director Andy McCaskey did an impromptu fill in while I banged electronics with large blunt objects but eventually I made it back to continue our discussion. Don't you just love it when things like that happen while in a LIVE recording?

Speaking of the show we ran with a subject I very much enjoyed talking about recently on the Geocaching Podcast in regards to Geocaching Faux Pas. Those nasty little no-nos that we may or may not do while out hunting for geocaches. We talked about everything from how you should not put foul language in a cache log to don't lie to the authorities if approached. All in all we discussed over two dozen topics. You will just have to watch the show when it comes out in distribution.

Our prize winners received some really great swag from our Geocaching World Cache Stash which included a CoinsandPins.com First To Find Traveler Tag and a CoinsandPins.com Earth Geocaching Pin. Way cool and congrats to Mike Neal and Louis Caplan for winning these great prizes.

Other points of interest is the introduction to a new segment being shown on RVNN LIVE called Geocaching Radar. It is a quick jam packed summary about any possible place in the USA. Included is some great travel information and a description of a choice geocache that you may be interested finding in your travels. Be sure to check that out on RVNN LIVE.

Did you know that on ROKU there is now an official RVNN Channel? That's right, you can now join the potential three million plus Roku viewers and watch all of the RVNN.tv shows right on your TV! That includes Geocaching World. Check out all the details here: http://rvnewsnet.com/

As always I want to thank all the fans and viewers that visited us in the chat room while we recorded the show. It is always so great having you there. Thanks for being there.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN) Pre CES2012 Episode

Tonight's episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) was everything CES 2012 (Consumer Electronics Show). That's right, myself (HeadHardHat), Courtney Wallin and Managing Director Andy McCaskey are heading for Las Vegas to be smack dab in the middle of this amazing event. We will not be alone amoungst all the gizmos and neon. There will be a team of about 18 individuals putting together the TPN.tv broadcasting epic.

The TechPodcast Network is lead by Todd Cochrane, Andy McCaskey and Jeffrey Powers with a host of junior talent (like Courtney and myself) plus support and production crew. Not only will we all be doing live interviews with hundreds of exhibitors at the TPN booth but also interviews and commentaries from all over the convention center and beyond. Many of us will be arriving on Saturday and then we go through all sorts of challenges as we go through pre show activities, building the TPN booth itself and also prepare everything for CES when it opens it's doors on Tuesday. That is a lot of prep-work.

Tonight's episode we presented some backroll video showing Andy and Courtney preparing to leave the RVNN.tv studios before heading for Vegas and I went over a top ten list of items I will like to investigate while at CES 2012. For all the great discussion and details you will need to see tonight's episode when it is released into the wild in the next few days.

Also if you want to keep up with just about everything that is going on during CES 2012 be sure to watch the TPN.tv website here: http://tpn.tv/ and you can also watch some of my personal behind the scenes by watching my Obsessed blog here: http://headhardhat-geocache.blogspot.com/

Stay tuned.. much more to come starting Saturday.

P.S. I want to thank all the fans and viewers that visited us in the chat room while we recorded the show. It is always so great having you there. Thanks for being there.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN) - EP #916 - Cleaning Out The Video Closet

My head is still swimming from all the fun we had last night as we recorded Geocaching World (RVNN.tv). This was the last show we are going to do for 2011. Yep,  we are taking the next two weeks off to celebrate the holidays and also gear up for CES2012 which happens in January. For the weeks of December 22nd and December 29th we are going to have Geocaching World marathons. Fear not though, be sure to join up in the chat-room anyway because we may be stopping by to say hi and make fun comments as we watch with you.

Lessee, some of the really great notables was once again we utilized a Google Hangout and had a slew of people joining us there as well as another record crowd in the chat-room. Saw a lot of new names and faces with the added bonus of viewers from at least five different countries in attendance. It is so cool because for many of them it was extremely late at night but we were told they wouldn't miss a live recording. Thanks so much to everyone who stops on by during the show. We interact so much the gang that you are truly an intricate part of the show!

I am not sure but judging by the comments in the chat-room and in the hangout I inadvertently made several viewers wet themselves by my opening segway. You see the show's theme was "Cleaning Out The Video Closet" and the second I heard that my mind instantly thought, "Oh this is going to be fun". So you know me, I did what I had to do to get a laugh. Picture this, the TechPodcast Network logo fades and I fade into view. Then I say ever so matter of factly, "Tonight on Geocaching World, HeadHardHat comes out of the closet"...pause...taps headphone in left ear..."Oh, right, HeadHardHat cleans out video closet - NEXT on Geocaching World".

I really wasn't sure what the reaction was going to be but in my headphones I heard Co-Host Courtney Wallin and Managing Director Andy McCaskey busting up in the background. Then I looked at the comments in the chat-room and saw that it and the hangout exploded as well. It was one of those moments that I will remember for quite some time.

The entire show itself went really well shy of one time Skype acted up and Andy had to call me back to get a better connection. We discussed First To Finds, Multi-geocaches and how to make one of my cool fire hydrant PVC geocaches. All with a nice little video and discussion which included the chat-room and hangout. In fact, when you watch the actual show you will see that in one monitor behind Courtney is myself on Skype and in the other is people from the hangout. Really cool. Special kudos to one of our regular viewers Darren Matthers from Scotland who also had some cool reindeer graphics going on during the hangout. Thanks Darren!

Well again, fantastic show, lots of people in the chat-room and hangout, awesome discussions with everybody. The prizes that were given away form our Cache Stash consisted of a really great geocoin from the Cache-A-Maniacs Podcast and an amazing GeoAchievement geocoin and pin set from CoinsAndPins.com.

We always have a great time when doing Geocaching World and it just keeps getting better! You will be able to see the show in it's entirety in a few days. Be sure to check out RVNN.tv, iTunes, TechPodcast Network and all our other distributors to see when it actually gets released.

So that's it for 2011. We will be back in January 2012 and if we haven't said it before we are saying it now. It is you our fans and viewers that keeps us going each and every week. We could not do this show the way we do without you. THANK YOU!

To All, Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays - Happy New Year and see you next year!

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Ep 914 - Geocaching Holiday List 2011

Okay right off the bat I have to apologize to our loyal readers in regards to not getting the Behind The Scenes information for Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) out until now. Our last show was all about the Geocaching Holiday List for 2011. It is chock full of all sorts of gift giving information and I have been so busy with so many things I was not able to get the actual list out until yesterday. Here is the link for it by the way:
http://headhardhat-geocache.blogspot.com/2011/12/geocaching-holiday-list-2011-poll-2011.html

So since the actual episode is still not out for your viewing pleasure, let me see if I can at least remember some of the highlights. Lessee, Courtney Wallin was learning a lot from this show when it comes to all the cool gadgets and tools geocachers use when out enjoying our game, sport and or obsession. Our Holiday Gift List came from feedback of actual geocachers and then sorted from most popular items to the least. We had a lot of surprises this year compared to lists past. It is best that you just click on the link above and give it a gander. The main idea is to help family and friends find gift ideas for geocachers and I get thanked each and every year for doing this, so, your welcome.

We had so many things to talk about the show ran a bit long at around the 56 minute mark. It's all good information and to me the time just flew by. The prizes given away from our Geocaching World Cache Stash during this episode were very cool. For example we gave away a bunch of those really cool night geocache tacks from GxPrpoxy.com and something new, a set of geocaching pocket books from Geobloggen.com. I will be doing a review of them in the very near future.

Of course the Grand Prize went to NativTxn (Denise Vajdak) who won the beautiful Sample Compass Rose Geocoin from CoinAndPins.com. Here is the link telling about it:
http://headhardhat-geocache.blogspot.com/2011/11/register-to-win-one-of-kind-sample.html
That was a really fun contest and we want to thank CoinsAndPins.com for their very generous donation to our Cache Stash.

Well that is about it for this behind the scenes account. Thanks again for stopping by and checking it out. The actual episode should be out for distribution just about any time now so keep a look out. You will be glad you did.

All of our released Geocaching World episodes are available in iTunes and on the RVNN.tv website but if you did not make it to the live recording you can see it when it is released soonly.

Geocaching World is recorded LIVE each and every week on Thursday at 6:30pm EST. We meet up in the chat room here: www.ustream.tv/channel/rvnn-live.

If you are a company who would like to participate with our Geocaching World Cache Stash Sponsorship Program and donate prizes for our show please email geocache@rvnn.tv for more details.

See you next week.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Ep. #913 - Geocaching Thing-A-Mabobs

What-cha-macallits,  whos-a-whatzis and thing-a-mabobs was the theme for last night's recording of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv). When I first Skyped in to the studio it sounded more like gremlin's day. Apparently Producer/Co-Host Courtney Wallin was having some continuous technical issues all day and they were not slowing down right up to show time. Now I have never seen Courtney mad before and quite frankly all she has to do is give me "The Look" which is enough to send shivers down the spine of any action hero. So when she was stating that she was going to lose it, I wasn't sure I wanted to be around when that happened. Fortunately for everyone things mostly settled down in time to do the show.

One of the things that we have been playing with is the use of Google+ hangouts during the recording of the show. We tried it again last night and had some really nice results. There is going to be a bunch more tweaking that needs to be done to get the full functionality but I can see it as a nice addition in the not too distant future. One of the cool things that I can do is run a second camera off of my second computer when we do this. I just found it a bit cumbersome because I also use that monitor for watching the chat-room while we do the show. So it also is going to mean getting a second monitor for that system like I have for my primary system. That will be four monitors going now but it is necessary between the Skype session, show notes, hang out, chat-room and anything else I need. Oh and the addition of a new Microsoft Lifecam Cinema webcam has greatly improved the Skype session over my laptop camera. HD is a good thing.

Wow, just realized how much I was rambling about all the technical stuff going on and haven't talked about the show itself yet. Ah well isn't that what the "Behind the Scenes" goodness is all about? Okay, on with the show.

We talked about many of the favorite thing-a-mabobs that geocachers use when out geocaching. Theses items are not your run of the mill things like GPSr units, topo maps or ammo cans. More like extension grabbers, multi-tools and led light baseball caps. This is all geocachers information gold because you are going to run into a situation where you have to get a geocache and you don't have the right gizmo to do it. This show will help you fill up your geocaching pack with the right tools for the job. If you want to get all the details you will have to watch the entire show when it goes into distribution. Don't fret it will only be a week or so.

PRIZES! Glad you asked. The Geocaching World Cache Stash was really hopping tonight with contributions of a pack of Waypoint Markers from GxProxy.com and a beautiful wrist bracelet from GeoSurvivalGear.com.

The BIGGIE contest prize of course was the CoinsAndPins.com Compass Rose Sample Geocoin. It is a one of a kind geocoin which are extremely coveted. In fact if you read this before EOD Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 you might want to read about it here and send in your entry.
http://headhardhat-geocache.blogspot.com/2011/11/register-to-win-one-of-kind-sample.html

Special thanks to Courtney Wallin and Managing Director Andy McCaskey for doing a really fun show. Plus another huge thank you to everyone who was watching us record and also interacted in our chat-room. Mucho Thank You, the show would not be the same without you!

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Ep. #912 - Geocaching Events Breakdown

Last night's episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) was on Tuesday instead of our usual Thursdays due to the holiday season and some schedule changes. Even though we recorded LIVE on a different night the chat room still was hopping with people and I think we were actually close to breaking an occupancy record. Very cool and you really have to be in there chatting away to really appreciate all the information and conversations that goes on during the show. So you just have to be there to know what we mean. What are you waiting for?

The best way to help people understand a concept is to demonstrate it. Courtney Wallin and I discussed what geocaching events are, what you can do at them and how to set one up.

Courtney Wallin

This was Courtney's first time being co-host during Geocaching World instead of behind the studio production boards and she did a terrific job. I really think that since she has been with us from the start and even has found some recent geocaches that she will make a great addition to the show. I know the chat room has given her a very friendly geocacher welcome. I very much look forward to working with her as well. Now if we can get Managing Director Andy McCaskey more comfortable with production.... but that is another story <jk>.  Andy did great even though we had to restart the intro of the show three times.  All part of the fun when doing live recordings. I was very impressed with Andy of his switching abilities. We had a lot of photos and videos sprinkled through the whole show and he didn't miss a beat. Thanks Andy!

This week's episode discussed everything you wanted to know about geocaching events. From Meet and Greets, Flash Mobs and CITO events to the Megas. The idea was to hopefully plant the idea into our viewers that next year when the weather gets nice that maybe they could host a geocaching event and it really isn't all that difficult to do.

We broke down all the different types of geocaching events out there and why we have them. Then we went into great detail of the different aspects, activities and considerations that would go into hosting your own event. We had lots of interaction with our world wide chat room. Tons of comments and suggestions came from there and we used in the show. Thank You Chat-Room. For all the incredibly great info you are going to have to see the entire episode for yourself. It should be out within a couple of days of this posting.

The prizes from our Geocaching World Cache Stash were nice indeed. One was from our friends at CoinsAndPins.com which was a 250 Finds Geo-Achievement Patch. The second was an unactivated Cache-A-Maniacs geocoin. The questions were pretty easy this week. Hey it is the holiday season.

All of our released Geocaching World episodes are available in iTunes and on the RVNN.tv website but if you did not make it to the live recording you can see it when it is released soonly.

Usually Geocaching World is recorded LIVE each and every week on Thursday at 6:30pm EST. ***SPECIAL NOTE*** For the week November 20th we will be recording on TUESDAY the 22nd!

We meet up in the chat room here: www.ustream.tv/channel/rvnn-live.

If you are a company who would like to participate with our Geocaching World Cache Stash Sponsorship Program and donate prizes for our show please email geocache@rvnn.tv for more details.

See you next week.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World(RVNN.tv) Ep. 910 - GPSr Functionality and QR Codes

Every time I start writing up these behind the scenes reviews I always want to start off with how great the show was and how much fun everybody has before, during and after the live recording of Geocaching World. The only reason I am always tempted to do this is because it's true. We are building such a great fan base and they almost always are in the chat room, viewing on their computers or smartphones. So the Meet And Greet style shows are very relaxed and it's become very much a geocachers hang out time.

Each show Creative Director Dave Dufour and I Andy HeadHardHat Smith discuss an aspect of Geocaching. In the background the chat-room is a buzz with activity and geocachers from all around the world discuss their viewpoints about the topics of note. There are many times that you can catch Dave and I checking out the chat-room and we sometimes pull their discussions into the show. This of course does not include the questions that also come up. It's a true symbiotic relationship and the show would not be the same without it.

Tonight's show was a little different for a couple of reasons. First the opening intros were different. We had received an audio introduction for the show from Warren Andrews who does this now professionally. He is a big fan of the show and sent in the intro. It was so good Producer Courtney Wallin and Dave decided to incorporate it in for this special occasion. The intro turned out great and you will just have to see it when the entire show becomes available. Again thanks Warren!

Another oddity with tonight's episode was an experiment Managing Director Andy McCaskey had us do. Dave displayed three different QR codes for the viewers to scan of different sizes. Some went to web URLs, contained text messages and took you to a YouTube Geocaching video. I believe the testing showed which size was the most effective and we will most likely be using them on several of the RVNN.tv shows.

After all of that we actually discussed the main theme of the show itself and investigated many of the different functionalities of a GPSR handheld unit.

Don't forget the prizes from our Geocaching World Cache Stash. One was a heavy duty lanyard from our friends at CoinsAndPins.com and the other was a really cool key chain from GeoSurvivalGear.com. Congrats to the winners in the Chatroom.

Well, shy of another experiment that we tried by simul streaming through some new equipment that was about it for this show. Please be sure to see the entire show when it becomes available in the next few days. You don't want to miss the pair of large owls we caught on file while doing one of the segments.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv): Smorgasbord of Topics #905Meet & Greet

It is official, we love doing Meet and Greet style formats for Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) shows. They are so much fun and has a completely relaxed atmosphere to it. We get to goof around a bunch more like tonight when Creative Director, Dave Dufour was all dressed up in a tie, I punked him by also wearing a tie over my tie-dye tshirt.  We also have a more direct communication with the viewers in the the chat-room.

Tonight's episode was kind of a Smorgasbord of Topics which happens when we have a bunch of different subjects to talk about but none of them by themselves would fill a whole section or show. We talked about interesting geocaching goodness like using Triangulation to find a geocache, showed a website that makes converting map coordinates easy and showed off a Decoder Geocoin. There is a whole bunch more but you really should see the show to appreciate all of it.

For the Geocaching World Cache Stash Sponsorship we introduced CoinsAndPins.com who has donated all kinds of great prizes for the show. We gave away a trackable tag and a really cool geocoin. Thanks so much to CoinsAndPins.com for being a part of the Cache Stash!

We also announced the next big Give-A-Way Contest. The fine folks at Brazos Walking Sticks has donate a hand made trackable walking stick. We will be doing a complete review on the prize which will be shown in my  blog and all the details for the contest will be reveled in next weeks show.

Phew, so much stuff and we only touched the surface. Again watch the whole show when it comes out on iTunes, The TechPodcast Network, Blubrry, Roku and a host of other distributors.  Thanks for the folks who did join us in the chat-room and on the TechPodcast Network for watching. You really do make the show more fun to do!

You can join us each and every week as we record Geocaching World on Thursdays at 6:30pm EST. We meet up in the chat room here: www.ustream.tv/channel/rvnn-live

If you are a company who would like to participate with our Geocaching World Cache Stash Sponsorship Program and donate prizes for our show please email geocache@rvnn.tv for more details.

See you next week.

Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Meet and Greet Episodes Rock!

Over the past month or so we have had a slightly different format to our Geocaching World show. Normally we offer a 30 minute show which is broken up with three, eight minute, segments and the rest is filled with commercials, show bumpers and other necessary stuff. It is really a lot of fun to do but one of the things we noticed was how Creative Director Dave Dufour, Producer Courtney Wallin and myself Andy "HeadHardHat" Smith kept discussing a ton of Geocaching stuff in-between segments. Many times we answered questions from the chat room which is full every time we record the show and none of this was recorded. A terrible waste of content in my opinion. We needed a way of getting almost all of our discussions recorded and so the Geocaching World "Meet and Greet" was tried.

If you go to iTunes you will see the Meet and Greet style shows are a bit longer. Usually running a good 45 minutes in length or more. We do commercials but they are done live right as we record the show. As an added bonus a lot more of the adhoc discussions are kept within the show as well. This gives Geocaching World a much more relaxed "let's hang out and talk Geocaching" kind of feel to it.

Now we get a lot more interaction with the chat room, more photos from geocachers and LOTS more chances for people to win cool prizes from our Cache Stash. The Geocaching World Cache Stash is a sponsorship program where Geocaching based companies can donate prizes that are given away during the show in exchange for a mention of the company and their product. It is becoming very popular with more participants getting into the program every month. A nice win-win in all of our books.

So if you are interested in Geocaching and want to learn more, want to get in on the fun of hanging out with a whole bunch of very interactive and helpful geocachers in the chat room or just want to participate in the making of a live TV show. Geocaching World is the place to be.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Episode #32 - FAQ's

What a fun show tonight. This episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) was in that fun and easy style of a Meet and Greet. Here we get away with a lot more. We communicate with the chat room a whole lot more and they interact right back with us. This makes the show so much more entertaining because the chat room sort of directs how the show goes. Tonight we did an FAQ show, in other words, a geocaching Frequently Asked Question show. It doesn't matter how much a person does geocaching there are always questions about some subject or another. Tonight we pulled out of a hat a bunch of different questions and then discussed them. This further brought in other questions from the chat room and on we went.

The weekly show prizes were both donated by our friends at GxProxy.com. the first was some great Trail Tags. These are night type tacks that are directional. They literally can point in the next direction you want the finder to go. Our winner of this had to encode a message into Rot13 and that was - Dane Morgan.

The second question was what does the acronym TPTB mean? The winner was Louis Caplan who won some really nice GxProxy.com donated Waypoint Tags.

It was so relaxed tonight even Dave Dufour and I got to make fun of Producer Courtney Wallin in regards to the Michigan / Notre Dame game played earlier in the week. I was able to get my "Go Blue" digs in because they won said game and Courtney gave one of her best "The Look" expressions I have had in a while.

Questions tonight touched adopting a geocache, how reliable are smart phone GPS units, what is a stash note and do a lot of geocachers like geocaching alone. There were tons more but these are some of them.

We went through two different "Lets Go Geocaching" videos where we witnessed a bunch of different geocaching hides in areas around the country.

There was a whole lot more talked about as well but you really should see the show itself. It is well worth the watch.

Enjoy,

-HHH

Geocaching World is recorded each and every week LIVE on Thursday's at 6:30pm EST. You can go here to join the chat room and watch the show. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/rvnn-live

Watch our Geocaching World episodes already released via iTunes, Blubrry, Blip.tv and of course on the TechPodcast Network of which we actually simulcast our LIVE feeds. Way too cool.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - #31 Geocoinfest US 2011 - Meet and Greet

Last night's show was just a powerhouse of great discussion, lively guests and a packed chat room that took a life of it's own. Amazing!

This episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) started off early. The chat room started filling up about 20 to 30 minutes before setup time. I always like that because it gives me more time to chat with our viewers. Our first of two guests on the show was our Vonage: Time To Call iPad 2 Giveaway winner: Giancarlo Herrera. Giancarlo is an amazing young man who not only loves to geocache but who also has his own geocaching based podcast called the GeoCraze Podcast. We congratulate him on winning such an amazing prize!

Our second guest is one of the organizers to this year's Geocoinfest US 2011 Mega Event. Scott Seegars described to us all the details that are going to be happening this October. I am really excited about Geocoinfest because I will actually be attending it and also am a guest speaker. There will be lots more details when I get back and we will be featuring them in one of the upcoming Geocaching World episodes.

Did I mention how packed the chat room was? One of the main concepts behind the new Meet and Greet style shows is ability to be more relaxed and literally chat with everyone. We had discussions, questions and remarks all night from the chat room and to me personally THAT really dictates our show. The more interaction we have with our viewers the more fun it is for everybody. So now would be the best time to say thanks for everyone who did attend and we look forward to seeing you back and encourage even more to stop by and share the wealth of geocaching knowledge.

There was so much information we had to go through we almost forgot to give away our weekly prize for the show. ALMOST that is. This weeks winner received a cool 8 1/2" wristband from GeoSurvivalGear.com. We will be getting that and some of the backlogged prizes out in the mail this weekend.

Well that's all for now. Oh, before I forget I also wanted to welcome all the new viewers from The TechPodcast Network in which we simulcast not only the entire Geocaching World feed but we usually have 30 minutes or so to just chew the fat some more about geocaching with the chat room after the show. Again welcome to the show!

Geocaching World is recorded LIVE each and every week on Thursday's at 6:30pm EST. You can be a part of the show by going in our video chat room here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/rvnn-live

If  you would like to be a guest on Geocaching World, participate in our Cache Stash Sponsorship program, have show suggestions, photos or ideas - boy that is a lot :)  Send it to geocache@rvnn.tv, again thanks!

See you next week!

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Episode #30 Paperless Geocaching Meet and Greet

Tonight's episode of Geocaching World was once again a Meet and Greet format which meant it is a whole lot less formal overall. Creative Director Dave Dufour and myself like doing the show this way. Mainly because we can interact directly with the folks in the chat room. This is great because we can start on a particular subject and the chat room can direct in a way how the show goes. It is a lot of fun.

Because this format is a lot less formal we can give away a lot more prizes which is always great with the chat room and our viewers. This week we gave a really nice cami bison tube from GxProxy.com which went to Pingvoyager who is a regular in the chat room. We also showed a bunch of photos that were sent in for the Vonage: Time To Call contest we have been running all week. It showed geocachers doing what they do best. The entries that were sent in goes into a drawing that one lucky winner will win a brand new iPad 2. The drawing is Saturday, September 3, 2011.

The meat of discussion with today's show dealt with Paperless Geocaching. We went over the general history of paperless geocaching and how it and GPSrs has developed over the years. We talked about everything from PDAs, Netbooks, Tablets, Smart Phones and other applications.

The second prize we gave out was really cool. For the Vonage contest there is a limit of one entry per person. The prize we did here was who ever sent in the correct answer from the chat room would win ten entries to possibly win the iPad2. Viewer AVToolman was the viewer with the correct answer.

There is a whole lot of great discussion and other valuable information in the show itself. Be sure to check it out when it becomes available in iTunes in the next day or so.

Enjoy.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Ep. 29 - Create Your Own Geocache Meet and Greet

Wow, what a night! So many fantastic things going all at once for this episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv).

First off this was the very first time that we ran LIVE video as we recorded on both RVNN.tv and the TechPodcast Network at the same time. Next we are starting our Fall recording schedule so our new night is Thursdays at 6:30pm EST.

Finally we are a part of a Vonage IPad2 Giveaway. In tonight's episode one lucky winner in our chat room won 10 total chances to win the Vonage prize. Another slight change we presented this episode with a geocacher's Meet and Greet style to it. A bit more casual and a bunch more interaction with the chatroom. It was definitely different but a lot of fun.

I think the people in the chat room had a lot more fun as well. The discussions for today included making your own geocaches for example we talked about my Evil Ant Hill Geocache which we showed how we made it out of bondo. Then we went over a whole set of PVC geocaches and finished with my Evil Resin Geocaches. For prizes our winners were Collin who won a Cache-A-Maniacs Podcast Geocoin and Scott won the 10 chances to win the Vonage IPad2. If you want to put in your chance to win the IPad2. Go to RVNN.tv's website, my blog (GeoCache: I'm NOT Obsessed... Right?) or my GeoSnippits website for all the details or watch tonight's show should be out by the time you are reading this. Did I mention that the commercial we used during the show featured me as I describe the Vonage product Time To Call and the giveaway contest? Way cool!

Also during this show we had some great photos sent in from the chatroom. I am not going to spoil and tell everything but one of them was how David Clark made a Cryptex geocache. You really need to see this! After that Dave Dufour, Courtney Wallin, Andy McCaskey and myself Andy HeadHardHat Smith did our daily episode of RVNN Live.

Made for a very full evening and a whole lot of fun. Judging from the chat room they had fun and I hope we made a whole lot of new friends on the TechPodcast as well.

See you next week!

Geocaching World is recorded LIVE each week on Thursday's at 6:30pm EST. Be a part of the show by joining our chat room on RVNN.tv.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Episodes #27 Eric From Groundspeak #28 Placing Your First Geocache Part 2

I find myself smiling once again when typing down the behind the scenes RVNN.tv goodness and thinking back about all the things that goes on when we record Geocaching World. We did two shows and had one heck of a fun session. The only bummer for the whole night was Producer Courtney Wallin was not there due to her not feeling well. We missed her A LOT and in fact many GW viewers sent Courtney emails of get well wishes. Our viewers are the best. Some how though we did manage to get through the evening. Did I mention we missed Courtney? Managing Director Andy McCaskey had his hands full while we recorded the shows as he filled in for Courtney and did all the things a Managing Director does. Mostly it's to wrangle Dave and I when we get off on one of our tracks. Like say for example as we break out in quotes from The Three Stooges. What can I say we do have fun.

Some very cool things of note that happened during the show. We had viewers in the chat room last night from New Zealand , Prague of the Czeck Republic and Canada! Not to mention all across the USofA. That is so great and we really appreciate you all being there.

Anywho, Our first show we had as our guest Eric Shudiske from Groundspeak via Skype. We talked about everything from the new geocache type known as Challenges and what they are. Then the discussion turned to Eric's trip with the Groundspeak film crew as they explored and filmed geocaching in Germany and the Czeck Republic. There was a whole lot more and we will save it for you to enjoy when you actually see the released show. Needless to say it was a great show and the chat-room agreed.

Our second show we still had a packed chat-room and Creative Director Dave Dufour and I talked more about what you should know about placing your first geocache. It was sort of a continuance from a show we did last week. We had so much material to cover and it was important to get it all so when a geocacher does place a hide, they are well prepared.

Finally after both shows were complete we did Monday's edition of RVNN LIVE which is a daily collection of everything that happens at the RVNN.tv studios. So even after four hours worth of taping we still had a good crowd going in the Chat-Room. It is a lot of fun watching how the shows are made and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. I like watching it too!

Geocaching World Cache Stash Prizes
Here are the prizes that were given away during the recording of the two shows.
#27 - Geocoin from Cache-a-Maniacs Podcast
       - Bison Tube from GxProxy.com

#28 - RVNN.tv Patch from RVNN.tv
       - Lanyard from GeoSurvivalGear.com

If you would like to donate prizes to the Geocaching World Cache Stash and get your product and business mentioned on the show. Contact me Andy HeadHardHat Smith at geocache@rvnn.tv. We are interested in any items related in some way to geocaching. It is greatly appreciated and beneficial to you as well.

Special Note: The new fall schedule starts next week and we are moving the LIVE recordings to THURSDAYs at 6:30pm EST. Be sure to mark the new day on your calendars starting 8/25/2011.

See You There!

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - Episode #26: Placing Your First Geocache

Wow, all I can say about last night's live recording of Geocaching World is wow. It was a night of experimentation, really cool prize give-a-ways and all around good times.

I personally started early when Creative Director Dave Dufour asked me if I wanted to be a part of the days episode of RVNN Live. Since I had already my equipment like lighting, sound and computer systems in place it was a no brainer. There Managing Director Andy McCaskey, Dave and myself talked about all things RV for about 45 minutes or so. We always have such a good time just talking the time flys by.

Next thing I knew Producer Courtney Wallin was getting things ready for our recording of Geocaching World. During this time I am busy getting the word out to all of my Google+, Twitter and Facebook fans that the show is about to begin recording. Then I get all my show notes in order via my Ipad2 and netbook which I monitor the chat room during the show. Finally on my main computer I get my Skype hookup in place and any other props or items I may want to show during the taping. It is an unusual balance of controlled chaos but we have been doing this for a while and I am used to it.

Tonight was a bit different for a couple of reasons. One, we all really wanted to see if we could work in a Google+ Hangout. This is a conference type of application where you can have up to ten people video chatting at the same time. Long story short. Going to take some more testing and tweaking. Skype and Google+ do not play together well, but we will keep at it.

The second reason the show was a bit different was we were giving away a couple of really nice prizes only to the people who were in the chat room during the taping. The prizes included a very cool key-chain donated from GeoSurvivalGear.com and the second was an actual Cache-A-Maniacs Geocoin. We will be posting more about our GW Cache Stash sponsorship program in an upcoming post. So more later.

The show itself went great. we had Pingvoyager from North Carolina on in the first segment talking about his and his friend Luckysgirls's night time geocaching adventure via kayak. We had a little problem with some delay issues but overall a great discussion.

Segments two and three Dave and I talked about many of the things you need to consider if placing a geocache. We had so much content that this is going to come up again in a future episode. The whole point to it was to get Dave enough information to place his first geocache correctly. More information about that in the show.

So with the record crowds in the chat-room, all the great discussions with the viewers and with each other the night was a complete success and a whole lot of fun. RVNN.tv gave out five stickers to the chat-room and so there were a whole lot of happy people. We hope you can attend our next recording and join in the fun.

Scheduled for our next recording will be Monday, August 15th. We plan on doing two shows starting at 6:30pm EST. Our planned special guest will be Eric Schudiske from Groundspeak.

Cya there!

GeoWoodstock IX: Three Days, Six Shows, 1300+ Miles, a Handful of Geocaches - Part Three: The Day of Geowoodstock IX

Meet "Jenny" at GeoWoodstock IX

How does one summarize a day such as GeoWoodstock IX? To be straight out honest I can't,  at least I cannot account for everything that happened at this amazing Geocaching event. My perspective is one from the fun and excitement I observed in and around the media/podcast building from which I spent the majority of the day. Here goes though.

Andy McCaskey, Dave Dufour, Amanda a.k.a. Geoness and I showed up at 7:00am EST at the Warren County Fairgrounds after an hour ride from our hotel in Franklin. This was my first Mega Geocaching Event so I already was pretty much geeked once my feet hit the hotel floor. For years I heard about GeoWoodstock and now I was going to be able to experience it for myself. Even though I was pretty much booked for the day with all the shows and podcasts it was still going to be an amazing experience.
I originally planned on helping Darrylw4, Firefly03 and TheBadCop with the audio setup but instead ended up going out and scouting the camping areas where several geocachers stated interest with talking to RVNN.tv about their Geocaching adventures in their RVs. Managing Director Andy McCaskey and Creative Director Dave Dufour were leading the way as we ventured forth.

First we met up with a Geocaching couple who introduced us to "Jenny". Jenny,  who happened to be a neon green VW van. You can't miss Jenny which absolutely depicted the theme and glory of a GeoWoodstock event. There was Peace, Love and Geocaching everywhere you looked. Doing the interview was a real treat and after giving hugs and handshakes we were bestowed with a really cool peace sign neckless. In fact I wore it for the whole rest of the day.

Our next destination took us all the way to the back of the grounds where we met our second Geocaching couple. We had such a great time talking with them that we invited them to be part of the actual show in front of our audience. They happily agreed.

Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the stage. As we strolled across the camping area I realized from our early morning excursions how Geocaching and RVing does really go hand and hand. There really are a whole lot of RVrs out their that do enjoy our Geocaching activity.

To Be Continued Tomorrow....  Part Four: Podcasts and TV Shows.. It's all Good
